Welsh released a statement on Facebook explaining his decision, saying he no longer felt the passion for football necessary to pursue a pro career:
Welsh has battled depression throughout his time at Iowa, penning a thoughtful note about it prior to his senior season.
What’s next for the former Hawkeye remains to be seen, but it appears his football career is over.
