The former Iowa standout is expected to be the Lions’ top receiver this season. He finished second on the team last season with 723 yards and 6 touchdowns. Marvin Jones, who led the team with 978 yards and 9 touchdowns, is now on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Through two seasons in the NFL, Hockenson has established himself as one of the game’s best tight ends. He has 99 catches for 1,090 yards and 8 touchdowns in his career.
In addition to having a new coaching staff, the Lions are led by new quarterback Jared Goff. He was acquired in an offseason trade with the Los Angeles Rams for Matthew Stafford.
The Lions open their 2021 season on Sept. 12 against the San Fransisco 49ers.
