A second Northern Illinois defensive lineman will be continuing his football career at Iowa.

On Monday, the Hawkeyes received a commitment from former NIU defensive end Matt Lorbeck. He made the announcement with a post on Twitter. Lorbeck becomes the second Northern Illinois defensive lineman to transfer to Iowa, joining defensive tackle Jack Heflin.

“Excited to call Iowa City home for the next year and a half,” Lorbeck posted on Twitter. He will be a walk-on with the Hawkeyes.

According to 247Sports, Lorbeck is planning to redshirt the 2020 season before having eligibility in the 2021 campaign.

Last year with the Huskies, Lorbeck piled up 34 total tackles with 5.5 stops for loss and two sacks. Over the last two seasons, the defensive end has been credited with 12 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Iowa is coming off a 10-3 season, which included a win over then-undefeated Minnesota and a Holiday Bowl victory over USC. The Hawkeyes have not registered back-to-back 10-win seasons since hitting 11 wins in 2002 and 10 victories in 2003 and 2004.
