Fran, Connor McCaffery share frustration at Iowa hoops' poor offensive showing vs. Nebraska
Fran and Connor McCaffery are one of the few father-son duos in college basketball. The two seemed frustrated after the loss to Nebraska per Hawk Central’s Travis Hines.
Iowa lost to Nebraska 66-50 on Thursday. The Hawkeyes had a tough time scoring the basketball and it showed throughout the game.
Fran detailed how Iowa took a lot of shots to only score 50 points. The Iowa coach stated that Iowa put up a total of 73 shots during the game.
“We’d move it, move it, move it, somebody would shoot an open three,” Fran McCaffery said. “Somebody would shoot an open jumper. Somebody would shoot a floater in the lane. We got 73 shots up. That’s a lot of shots to get 50 points.”
Connor came off the bench and was only able to score 5 points. This was despite Connor playing for 25 minutes. Connor went 2-for-8 from the field in the loss and also had 5 rebounds.
“It’s definitely tough. You look up and you’re stuck at eight (points) for a while,” said Connor McCaffery. “The thing that’s disappointing is we should have gotten more back in that stretch. We didn’t attack the offensive glass. Sometimes you’re going to miss shots.”
Iowa has a chance to rebound in its next game against Penn State on Jan. 1.
