Fran McCaffery is promoting from within to fill a spot on his Iowa basketball coaching staff. Iowa announced Monday that Courtney Eldridge has been elevated to assistant coach.

“I am thankful to Coach McCaffery and Gary Barta for this opportunity,” Eldridge said via a school release. “I have been in Iowa City the past six years, and I know how special this community and program is. I am excited to mentor the student-athletes in our program.”

Eldridge was the program’s video coordinator from 2017-19 and the director of recruiting and player development the last 3 years. He fills the position previously occupied by Billy Taylor, who recently departed to be the head coach at Elon.

“I have had a relationship with Courtney for a long time,” McCaffery said in a released statement. “He played for me at UNCG, has been on my staff, and has a great relationship with our players. He is a tireless worker, who has tremendous character and experience that will benefit our program.”

The Hawkeyes have won 20 games or more each season since 2019. This year, they went 26-10, reaching the NCAA Tournament.
