College football is the best sport of them all. And what makes it so great?
The traditions are certainly a part of it.
Iowa’s Wave Tradition was created in the more recent years and has taken off in popularity. And, rightfully so. At the end of each Hawkeyes home game, fans, players and coaches wave to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, which overlooks the field.
The patients in the hospital wave back. It’s awesome. It doesn’t get better than that.
Another college football tradition that garners plenty of attention each Saturday is ESPN’s College GameDay and the signs that are created by fans attending, hoping to appear on television. While GameDay was at the Iowa-Iowa State game on Sept. 14, a Cyclones fan created a “Beer Money” sign asking for people to donate to his Venmo for beer.
At the time, it was a joke. The fan, Carson King — who is 24-years-old — didn’t think he would get much (if any) money. However, it has absolutely taken off. It started as just a few hundred dollars, and at that point, he said he would donate the extra money (outside of a case of beer) to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

It’s an awesome gesture. The cause turned into a phenomenon. He has no longer raised just a few hundred dollars. Actually, it’s been more than a few thousand, too.
It has reached over $1 million.
And on Monday, it was announced that King would be attending the Iowa-Middle Tennessee game on Saturday, Sept. 28 so that he could participate in the Wave Tradition:
WE JUST REACHED A MILLION IN TOTAL CONTRIBUTIONS @BuschBeer and @venmo Let’s goooo! We’re not done yet! @UIchildrens what do you think!? #ForTheKids

These are the families that gave up their Hawkeye football tickets for Saturday’s game so Cyclone fan @CarsonKing2 (far right) can see the @UIchildrens 👋🏻 in person.

Iowa-Iowa State may be a rivalry. But this act by a Cyclones fan shows that there is more to college football than just the game itself.
Outstanding.
