Iowa added to its 2021 recruiting class on Wednesday night. This time, the Hawkeyes received a verbal pledge from a three-star quarterback out of Ohio.

Joey Labas, a native of Broadview Heights, gave his verbal commitment to Iowa on Wednesday night. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound pro-style gunslinger picked the Hawkeyes over offers from Ball State, Akron, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, UMass and Toledo.

Labas became the 16th player to commit to the program during this recruiting cycle.

“I am extremely excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at IOWA UNIVERSITY,” Labas wrote. “I want to thank everyone who has helped me get to where I am today. Truly blessed and grateful for this amazing opportunity!”

According to 247Sports, Labas is listed as the No. 48 pro-style quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class and the No. 53 player out of the state of Ohio. Though he isn’t known for dual-threat ability, he does have the ability to pick up yardage on the ground.

As a junior Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School, Labas threw for 2,355 yards and 23 touchdowns with just two interceptions while completing 65.4 percent of his passes. He added 486 yards and nine touchdowns running the football.

Iowa’s 2021 class currently ranks ninth nationally and third in the B1G.
