Members of Iowa’s football team got the opportunity to meet some of the children they waved to at every home game in the 2017 season.

Tuesday night, the Hawkeyes visited the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital for a holiday party hosted by the 12th floor of the hospital. Players made cookies, played games and created ornaments with children throughout the evening.

The official Twitter account of Iowa Football documented a few of the moments.

The UI Stead Family Children’s hospital is the hospital that overlooks Kinnick Stadium, and has become forever tied with Hawkeyes football. At the end of the first quarter at every home game, players, coaches and fans wave to the children in the hospital. It’s become the best new tradition in college football and also won the Disney Spirit Award at the ESPN College Football Awards Show.

That new tradition has helped create a special and unique bond between the hospital and Iowa football.

It’s pretty awesome that the Hawkeyes got the opportunity to meet some of the kids they had been waving to all season.
