One of the top prospects from the state of Iowa has decided to stay home.

Saturday, three-star strong-side defensive end Jeffrey Bowie announced that he has committed to the University of Iowa. The West Branch native becomes the seventh player in the 2021 class to commit to the Hawkeyes, and is the fifth in-state produce to give a verbal pledge.

Bowie made his announcement via Twitter.

“I am extremely excited to announce that I am staying home and I am 100% committed to the University of Iowa,” Bowie wrote. “I would like to thank all of my coaches, family and teammates fro helping me get to this point! Go Hawks.”

According to 247Sports’ Composite rankings, Bowie is listed as the No. 29 strong-side defensive end in the 2021 class and is the sixth-best player from the state of Iowa. Overall, Bowie ranks No. 422.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pounds defensive end held nine offers during the recruiting cycle, which included four from B1G programs. In addition to Iowa, Bowie also received interest from Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa State and Kansas State, among others.

With the seventh verbal pledge of the 2021 class coming in, Iowa currently ranks seventh nationally and third in the B1G.
