Iowa announces honorary captain for final home game
Iowa has revealed who will serve as the honorary captain for the final home game of 2019.
Former Hawkeyes defensive back Desmond King will be the honorary captain this weekend as the 17th-ranked Iowa hosts Illinois at Kinnick Stadium for the final home game of the year. Iowa released a statement on Thursday to make the announcement.
King started in 51 games and appeared in 53 as a member of the Hawkeyes. He tied Iowa’s single-season record for interceptions, picking off eight passes in 2015. He finished his career with 14 interceptions. In addition, King totaled 263 tackles during his time in Iowa City (2013-16).
In 2015, King was taken in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers.
On Saturday, King will accompany the team to midfield for the pregame coin toss. He will also be in the locker room with the team before and after the game.
The Hawkeyes are 7-3 this season.
