Iowa announces honorary captain for matchup vs. Purdue
Iowa has announced its honorary captain for Saturday’s game against Purdue at Kinnick Stadium.
On Thursday, Iowa announced that former defensive back Bob Sanders will be returning to Iowa City to be the team’s honorary captain on Saturday. He will be with the team in the locker room and will also accompany the team captains to midfield for the coin toss.
Sanders was a second-team All-American selection as a senior in 2003, and was also a team captain and the team’s defensive MVP that year. He was also a three-time All-B1G selection.
During his career with the Hawkeyes, Sanders collected 348 tackles. As a senior, he forced six fumbles and recovered three fumbles.
Following his career at Iowa, Sanders went on to be a second-round selection in the 2004 NFL Draft. He played in 50 career games in the NFL, most of those with the Indianapolis Colts. He tallied 300 tackles and six interceptions in his career, and was also a Super Bowl champion.
