Iowa announces jersey retirement celebration date for Luka Garza
Iowa has announced that the jersey retirement celebration for Luka Garza will be held on February 22 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes are hosting Michigan State that day.
The jersey retirement will take place during halftime of the game.
Along with the retirement of Garza’s No. 55, the Iowa athletic department will be retiring jerseys of three other former players: Charles “Chuck” Darling, Roy Marble and Murray Wier. That honor will take place before tip-off between the Hawkeyes and Spartans.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT.
In four seasons at Iowa, Garza scored 2,306 career points and grabbed 931 rebounds. He averaged 18.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for his career with the Hawkeyes.
His final season with the Hawkeyes was last year, averaging 24.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest. He was named a first-team All-American, a first-team All-B1G, and was the winner of the B1G Player of the Year and National Player of the Year honors.
