Iowa was able to fend off a few B1G West rivals to land a pledge from one of the best prospects out of Kansas in the 2022 recruiting class.

Wednesday, the Hawkeyes received a commitment from 3-star linebacker/defensive end Caden Crawford. The Lansing, Kansas native is ranked as the No. 2 player from his home state and is considered one of the Top 500 prospects for the cycle, according to 247Sports.

The announcement came on Wednesday via Twitter.

“First I would like to thank God for putting me in the position I am in today,” Crawford wrote. “I would also like to thank all of my family, coaches, teammates, and friends. After much thought and consideration I would like to announce that I will be committing to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Iowa.”

Crawford received offers from Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota out of the B1G, as well as Kansas State and Oklahoma State from the Big 12. He is the second prospect from the 2022 class to commit to the Hawkeyes, joining 4-star defensive end Aaron Graves, an Iowa native.

Per 247Sports, Crawford is a 6-foot-5, 240-pound prospect who played multiple positions at the high school level. In addition to playing along the defensive line, he also was in an outside linebacker role.
