Josh Ogundele has decided to play for Fran McCaffery’s squad another season. The Iowa center announced Thursday that he is returning to the Hawkeyes, withdrawing his name from the NCAA transfer portal.

Ogundele entered the NCAA transfer portal back on March 30, sharing a note to Hawkeye Nation that indicated he planned to leave Iowa. Entering the portal does not bind a player to transfer, allowing players like Ogundele to return if they have a change of heart.

Ogundele has been with Iowa for 2 seasons, playing in 27 games off the bench. This past season, Ogundele made 19 appearances, helping the Hawkeyes to a 26-10 record, including an NCAA Tournament berth. Ogundele totaled 29 points, 24 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 4 steals in 2021-22. He will be a junior next season, but can apply the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for 2020-21 to play an extra season.
