Iowa coach Fran McCaffery addresses future with program
Fran McCaffery is not planning on leaving his post at Iowa. The head Hawkeye was asked about his future with the basketball program amid a rough 2024-25 campaign.
Per David Eickholt of 247Sports/CBS Sports, McCaffery indicated has no plans for this season to be his last with the program.
“I’m fully committed to the program and the players. I have no intention of moving on,” McCaffery said.
McCaffery, who turns 66 in May, has been the head coach at Iowa since March 2010. He has a 546-380 record as a head coach, with a 295-203 mark with the Hawkeyes.
Under McCaffery, Iowa made 4 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2019-23. At the time of the 2020 NCAA Tournament’s cancellation due to COVID-19, the Hawkeyes were 20-11 overall and 11-9 in Big Ten play.
Last season, Iowa went 19-15 overall and had its Big Dance streak snap. After going 10-10 in B1G play, the Hawkeyes went to the NIT, and had their season finish in the second round.
Barring a Big Ten Tournament run, Iowa is likely to miss out on the NCAA Tournament again. The Hawkeyes are 15-12 in 2024-25, and just 6-10 against conference opponents. Up next, McCaffery’s squad hosts Michigan State on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
