Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder truly believes Caitlin Clark is still undecided on her future playing plans.

Thursday night, the superstar for the Hawkeyes etched her name in the record books, supplanting the record as the top scorer in women’s college basketball history. As for the next step in her career, Bluder said she really has not discussed the decision with Clark recently.

“I had one conversation with Caitlin back in November about making her decision,” said Bluder. “I’ve talked to her parents one time since then, and that’s it.”

Overall, Bluder believes the decision is weighing on Clark and has presented a distraction, labeling the potential to come back to Iowa or leave for the WNBA Draft something that has “burdened” Clark throughout the year. Part of that has to do with Clark’s love for both options.

“I think it’s weighing on her. I think that is almost more of a distraction than the scoring record was. I think she’s really kind of burdened by this because she really loves both options, and she knows that someone is going to be disappointed,” Bluder explained. “She’s a relationship kid, she’s a person that really connects with people very very well.”

Clark certainly still has time to make her decision with the regular season winding down and Big Ten Basketball Tournament action right around the corner.

“I don’t have a sense that she’s made up her mind yet, so I guess it’s going to be wait and see,” said Bluder. “I think it’s really tough that the WNBA make them make this decision within 48 hours of the Final Four.”

While the decision is ultimately up to Clark, Bluder admitted she is not avoiding the fact that she wants the superstar to return to Iowa City. Bluder said she knows “what a gift I have with Caitlin” and would love to see Clark in college basketball for another year.
