Iowa coach Rick Heller calls out college baseball calendar: 'It's just senseless'
Iowa baseball is off to a good start in 2023, but coach Rick Heller isn’t happy about the circumstances.
The Hawkeyes have played away from home the first 2 weekends of the 2023 college baseball season. Iowa went 3-0 in the Snowbird Classic played in Port Charlotte, Florida last weekend. This weekend, the Hawkeyes were in Texas to take part in the Round Rock Classic.
Talking to LSU media after Iowa’s 12-4 upset win over the No. 1 Tigers, Heller vented his frustration with the college baseball calendar. Heller doesn’t think it’s right to start the season in the middle of February when much of the country is dealing with winter weather.
“Here we are in 2023 and we’re playing in the winter, when three quarters of the country can’t even go outside. It’s just senseless.” @UIBaseball head coach Rick Heller, following a 12-4 win over @LSUbaseball, says it’s still too early to be playing college baseball. #LSU pic.twitter.com/RNofvhWGLg
