Iowa is rolling, improving to 6-0 with a hard-fought win over Penn State in Iowa City!

It took quite a while for the Hawkeyes to gain control and put this one away. Sean Clifford staked the Nittany Lions to a first-half lead, but he would be unable to finish the contest. He left with an injury in the second quarter and did not return in the second half.

Iowa used a 10-point fourth quarter to take the lead, capped off with a huge touchdown from Spencer Petras to Nico Ragiani with just over 6 minutes remaining. Another interception (Iowa’s 4th of the game) sealed the win.

Now at 6-0, Iowa is off to its best start since 2015. That year, the Hawkeyes started off 12-0 before losing to Michigan State in the B1G Championship Game.

According to the FOX broadcast, Iowa also kept a number of impressive streaks alive. Iowa has 12 straight wins over the end of 2020 and the start of 2021, giving the Hawkeyes their first 12-game winning streak since 2015.

Kirk Ferentz’s squad also recorded their first top-5 win since taking down No. 3 Ohio State in 2017. Iowa also has 6 straight wins vs. ranked opponents, tying the longest such streak in school history that was set way back in 1960.

It is no time for a letup, but the remaining schedule works out very favorably for the Hawkeyes. No team on the rest of the schedule is currently ranked in the top 25 with road trips to Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Nebraska still to come.
