Iowa redshirt freshman defensive back Joshua Turner has played his last game as a Hawkeye.

Monday night, Turner issued a brief statement on Twitter, announcing his decision to transfer. He is a former 3-star recruit and was a member of Iowa’s 2017 class.

“I would like to thank the coaches and staff at the University of Iowa for giving me an opportunity to be a part of Hawkeye nation,” Turner wrote. “I will be forever grateful. I would also like to thank my teammates and all the awesome fans for making this a great experience. I will forever cherish the friendships and memories I’ve made here. As of today I will be transferring from the University of Iowa for other opportunities.”

Turner played in 11 games for the Hawkeyes this season, making five tackles. Most of his appearances came on special teams. He used a redshirt season in 2017.

Iowa finished the year 8-4 and will await to hear its bowl destination on Sunday, Dec. 2.

Turner is a native of Delray Beach, Florida. He did not announce a landing spot in his message.
