Iowa has bounced back nicely from that heart-breaking home loss to Wisconsin in late-September, coming out firing after the bye week by blitzing Minnesota and Indiana on the road.

The 5-1 Hawkeyes looking to continue that solid play this week at home against Maryland (Noon ET: TV: ESPN2).

Here are five things I want to see from the Hawkeyes this weekend against Maryland:

1. Keep abusing those unfair tight end matchups

Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson have combined for 692 yards worth of receptions so far, which is a stunning 45 percent of Iowa’s passing offense. That’s No. 1 in the country in tight end production, and it’s not even close. These guys are studs and they often can’t be guarded. Last week at Indiana was a perfect example of that, with both going over 100 yards and both scoring on long TD plays. More of the same against Maryland is, of course, a wise idea. The Terrapins’ linebackers can’t cover them, either.

2. Keep Nate Stanley’s jersey clean again

One thing that’s been overlooked a little bit in Iowa’s 90-point offensive explosion the past two weeks has been the outstanding play of the offensive line. They’ve been great, and it shows in the prodcution, especially in the passing game. Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley threw six touchdown passes last week at Indiana because he had all sorts of time to throw and he always got through his possessions to find the open receiver. He went untouched all day, and his jersey didn’t even need to get sent to the laundry room. Keep that up, and the numbers will continue to roll up.

3. Pick up the running game a bit for total domination

Iowa still hasn’t found its running game yet this year, and this might be a good time for that to happen against Maryland. Iowa is averaging only 3.9 yards per carry. Their 155 yards rushing per game ranks 86th — yes, 86th! — in the country out of 129 teams. Getting the running game going would make this a complete team. It’s time to step it up in that category.

4. Keep seeing improvement of young fill-ins on defense

Iowa’s defense has been very good all year, with just a few blips on their record, most notably the fourth-quarter collapse against Wisconsin. What’s been impressive the past few weeks is that Iowa has been able to overcome a ton of injuries to this group in the wins against Minnesota and Indiana. It’s very clear that many of these young kids are ready for primetime. They’ll need to keep it up, and continue to improve every day to keep the play sound in the secondary and the linebackers group.

5. Don’t get caught looking ahead

For Iowa fans, it still doesn’t feel like Maryland is part of the Big Ten. The two teams don’t play regularly in football and there’s no rivalry there. There’s probably going to be a diminished sense of enthusiasm as well on Saturday, and the Hawkeyes can’t find themselves sleep-walking through this one. There’s still a lot to play for this season, so don’t take this game for granted and come out and dominate.
