Fran McCaffery has found a new assistant coach.

The University of Iowa announced that former Director of Basketball Operations Billy Taylor will fill the role as the third assistant coach on the Hawkeyes’ staff. He steps into the role left vacant by Andrew Francis.

Taylor brings plenty of experience to the floor, having been a previous head coach at Ball State, Lehigh and Division II program Belmont Abbey.

“We are excited that Billy Taylor is rejoining the Hawkeye basketball family,” McCaffery said in a press release. “Billy is the perfect fit for our team. He knows our program well and has a wealth of coaching and recruiting experience. Billy is one of the most genuine and respected coaches in our profession. He will have an immediate impact with his passion for the game, and commitment to mentoring our student-athletes on and off the court.”

Before becoming a head coach, Taylor served as an assistant at Notre Dame and UNC Greensboro. He has been a part of the Iowa basketball program since 2013.
