The Iowa Hawkeyes are trailing Troy (14-10) at halftime and fans are taking to social media to voice their displeasure with the team and its head coach, specifically.

The Hawkeyes entered Saturday’s game coming off an unexpected loss to their rivals from Iowa State and fans had no patience watching Iowa head into the tunnel trailing Troy.

Troy entered the game with an (0-2) record, but while the Hawkeyes defense held the Trojans to just 10 rushing yards in the first half, QB Matthew Caldwell was outstanding against the Iowa defense in the first half. He completed 12-of-16 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.

The Hawkeyes also allowed a 77-yard punt return for a touchdown, which helped propel Troy to the 4-point lead at the halfway point.

Despite well-documented issues for Iowa offensively over the last few seasons, Ferentz has a strong track record, but fans are clearly fed up with the same old product on the field.

Last season, Ferentz led Iowa to a (10-4) record as the Hawkeyes won the Big Ten West. Iowa has held its own in the Big Ten under Ferentz as of late with 25 conference wins over the last 4 seasons.  Ferentz owns the title of Iowa’s all-time winningest head coach with a 196-119 (122-85 Big Ten) record with the Hawkeyes.

Iowa won Big Ten championships under Ferentz’s watch in 2002 and 2004.

But it’s clear Hawkeyes fans are tired of watching the old-school brand of football that relies on a stiff defense and little to no offense at times, while the rest of the college football world continues to evolve.

If Troy ends up pulling off the upset, it won’t be pretty when it comes to the fans voicing their reaction.
