Will the next great tight end for Iowa come from the walk-on ranks? That remains to be seen, but the Hawkeyes are getting another in-state prospect as a preferred walk-on.
The player is Jalyn Thompson, a 6-foot-4 and 220 lb. tight end out of Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. In his note on social media, Thompson said attending Iowa and “becoming a Hawkeye was a dream” growing up.
Now, he’s committed to the Hawkeyes via the 2023 recruiting class.
Guys, I’m starting to feel like Iowa is getting quite the steal with these walk-ons. First Watts, now Jalyn.
Thompson decommitted from NIU earlier and has opted for a PWO at Iowa instead.
He’s part of a Dowling team that’s the favorite to win the Class 5A state title right now. https://t.co/92cU3YHx5z

Thompson has gone unrated by the 247 Sports Composite Rankings but did hold offers from Nothern Illinois, Howard and Northern Iowa. He was originally committed to Northern Illinois but backed off that pledge to walk on with the Hawkeyes.
