Kirk Ferentz is keeping the top-ranked in-state prospect of the 2020 recruiting class at home.

On Friday night, David Eickholt of 247Sports reported that Gavin Williams, a 3-star running back out of Des Moines, Iowa, gave his verbal pledge to the Hawkeyes. He’s the No. 1 overall prospect from Iowa.

Williams became the fourth player to commit to Iowa’s 2020 class.

The 6-foot, 195-pound Williams is ranked as the No. 30 running back of his recruiting cycle and is hovering around one of the top 350 overall players in the class. It’s extremely early, but his pledge bumps the Hawkeyes up to the 15th ranked recruiting class of 2020 and fourth in the B1G.

Williams had four total offers, three of which were from B1G schools. In addition to Iowa, the running back received interest from Nebraska and Michigan. The only non-B1G team to offer — to this point — was Iowa State.

Iowa is coming off a 9-4 season in 2018, which included a win over Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl. The Hawkeyes had the 38th ranked recruiting class in 2019, and ninth in the B1G.
