Terry Roberts is going to test the transfer portal.

According to reports, Roberts is entering the portal as a graduate transfer. Roberts was a rotational player during his 4 seasons with the Hawkeyes, mostly finding success on special teams.

Roberts played in 5 games in 2022. He recorded 13 tackles, 3 pass breakups and an interception, including a season-high 6 tackles in the 10-7 loss to in-state rival Iowa State. Roberts seemed to be hitting his stride entering midseason, but a leg injury suffered in Iowa’s loss to Illinois sidelined him for the remainder of the year.

“He’s been such a spark player for us — did such a great job on special teams, a real catalyst,” Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said in November, according to 247Sports. “When he played in the defensive backfield, he’s played well. I’m not sure he’s ever gotten back to full strength whenever it was, late October. It’s tough. He’s tried, worked at it. He shut it down here a couple weeks ago, four, five weeks ago.”

Roberts’ best season came in 2021 when he recorded 14 total tackles, 3 pass deflections and an interception. In four years, Roberts totaled 47 total tackles, 5 pass breakups and 2 picks.

Multiple players have already announced their intent to leave the Hawkeyes and enter the transfer portal this offseason, including receivers Arland Bruce IV, and Keagan Johnson, along with running back Gavin Williams. Iowa could be on the rise, however, after former Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara announced his intent to transfer following the end of the 2022 season.

The Hawkeyes finished 7-5 in 2022 and will face off against Kentucky in the Music City Bowl in Nashville on Dec. 31.
