Matt Quarells, a graduate transfer wide receiver out of New Mexico, is officially a member of Iowa’s football team.

An issue with his transfer prevented Quarells from participating with the Hawkeyes when fall camp started.

Quarells played in all 13 games for New Mexico in 2016, but caught just 11 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown. He has 13 receptions in his career with the Lobos.

Though he may not have big numbers, the grad transfer is expected to add depth to the Hawkeyes’ receiving group, which could use some playmakers to go alongside Matt VandeBerg.

Iowa is trying to replace its top pass-catchers from last season, including Riley McCarron and Jerminic Smith, as well as tight end George Kittle.
