Iowa has settled on its athletics director hire, and removed the interim title for Beth Goetz.

The news was announced by Iowa after Goetz has been the interim athletics director since June. She’s the former AD at Ball State and has worked at UConn, Minnesota and Butler. Goetz is Iowa’s 13th athletics director after she joined the Iowa athletics staff in September 2022 as deputy director of athletics and chief operating officer.

Beth Goetz took over for Gary Barta, who retired after 17 years at the school.

Goetz is a former soccer player and college coach, and she has a bachelor’s degree from Clemson in 1996 and a master’s degree from Missouri-St. Louis in 2000.

Goetz most high-profile move to date was to fire Brian Ferentz as offensive coordinator, and she explained in a statement in October: “Our struggles on offense coupled with the offensive coordinator’s contract make this a unique situation.”

The university launched a national search at the end of November. The search committee was chaired by Nicole Grosland, associate dean for academic programs in the College of Engineering and professor of biomedical engineering, as chair of the search committee.

“Beth is a talented and dynamic leader and the national search we conducted has substantiated that she is the best athletics director for the University of Iowa,” Iowa President Barbara Wilson said in a statement. “She has done a remarkable job as interim, and I am confident she will lead our athletics department and student-athletes to new levels of achievement both on the field of play and in the classroom.”
