Iowa is adding some experience and depth to its defensive line via the transfer portal.

Thursday, David Eickholt of 247Sports reported that Iowa has received a commitment from former Northern Illinois defensive tackle Jack Heflin. He spent the last four seasons with the Huskies and will be immediately eligible for the 2020 season with the Hawkeyes as a graduate transfer.

Heflin was a second-team All-MAC selection after being credited with 28 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks while playing in 11 contests. Over the last three seasons, the defensive tackle made 38 appearances and piled up 72 stops, including 17.5 for loss.

Heflin also totaled nine sacks, forced three fumbles and blocked a kick while at Northern Illinois.

At Iowa, Heflin will have one year of eligibility remaining. He was a member of the Huskies’ 2016 recruiting class but used his first season as a redshirt season and did not play in any games.

The Hawkeyes are coming off a 10-3 season in 2019 and looking to compete for a B1G West title.
