Iowa’s “Three-Headed Monster” – Luka Garza, Joe Wieskamp, and Jordan Bohannon, proved too much for Minnesota on Sunday afternoon, as the Hawkeyes pulled away in the second half to top the Gophers 86-71.

Garza led all scorers on the day with 33 points, while Joe Wieskamp added 20 points and Jordan Bohannon chipped in 19 points to pace the Hawkeyes offense.

The Hawkeyes held just a two-point lead at the half, 39-37, but outscored the Gophers by 13 points in the second half to secure the win.

Also during the second half, Iowa forward Wieskamp became the 50th player in Hawkeyes’ program history to score 1,000 points in his college career. Wieskamp eclipsed the 1,000th point mark with a made free throw in the second half.

The win for the Hawkeyes avenged a Christmas Day 102-97 OT defeat at the hands of the Gophers.

The Hawkeyes will host Michigan State on Thursday, Jan. 14, while the Gophers are off until Saturday, Jan. 16 when they will host Michigan.
