The Iowa QB battle is resuming during Week 9. After Spencer Petras started the first 7 games of the season, a change could be incoming moving forward.

Following another lackluster outing by Petras — this time resulting in 3 first-half turnovers against Ohio State — Iowa officially made a change to the depth chart. For the next game, the Hawkeyes officially listed the QB1 spot as Petras OR backup QB Alex Padilla.

On Tuesday, Hawkeye wide receiver Arland Bruce IV addressed the ongoing battle for the team. According to John Steppe with The Gazette, Bruce mentioned that the two quarterbacks have been rotating during practice.

Bruce also indicated the two players are “getting even reps” in practice. It sounds like the QB battle is a true one with both players candidates to start the next game.

Bruce is Iowa’s third-leading receiver this season with 158 yards on 15 catches. He also has 1 of Iowa’s 2 receiving touchdowns entering Week 9.

Petras has completed just 53.1% of his passes for 989 yards, 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions through 7 starts this year. Padilla went 5-for-10 passing with 32 yards and an interception during action against Ohio State.
