Iowa football has lost another player to the transfer portal.

On Tuesday morning, Carson May, a freshman quarterback and member of the 2022 recruiting class made his decision to test the transfer portal after a year with Iowa, according to sources.

May, who is listed at 6-foot-5, was a lock-in for Iowa since 2021. In high school, May was ranked the No. 31 quarterback in the country and No. 12 player in Oklahoma.

Throughout the season, May was the No. 4 quarterback behind Spencer Petras, Joe Labas and Alex Padilla. During the Hawkeyes bowl game, the TransPerfect Music City Bowl, May was the No. 2 QB behind Labas.

The Hawkeyes’ quarterback situation has been a struggle with their starting quarterback Petras out after tearing his right rotator cuff and backup Padilla entering the transfer portal four days after the Hawkeyes played Nebraska.

However, Iowa recently secured former Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara from the transfer portal back in December.

We will see what happens next for May and for Iowa’s football program in 2023.
