Gavin Williams is waving goodbye to Kinnick Stadium.

Williams announced Friday that he would be leaving Iowa following the 2022 season. Williams will have 2 years of eligibility left at his next school.

“Hawkeye Nation, I want to thank you for welcoming me and allowing me to represent the black and gold. To my teammates, coaches, and training staff, thank you for all your support throughout my time here at Iowa. The connections I’ve made during my time here will truly last a lifetime. With all things considered, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility left.”

Williams finished 2nd in rushing yards last season behind Tyler Goodson, totaling 305 yards off 65 carries. In 10 games this past fall, Williams primarily served as the No. 3 running back behind Kaleb Johnson and Leshon Williams, recording 43 carries for 138 yards.

During his 3 seasons in Iowa City, Gavin Williams averaged 4.1 yards per carry and finished with 471 yards on the ground. He did not score a touchdown during his tenure in the Hawkeyes’ backfield.

Williams’ departure now marks the 3rd prominent offensive name to enter the transfer portal heading into December. Earlier this week, both receivers Keagan Johnson and Arland Bruce IV announced their intent to transfer after a woeful offensive showing.

The Hawkeyes finished 7-5 in 2022 and will await their bowl assignment come Sunday during the bowl selection show.
