Iowa has released its first depth chart of the season prior to kicking off its 2020 campaign vs Purdue on Saturday.

Sophomore quarterback Spencer Petras gets the start under center after spending two seasons in the Iowa system. He saw limited action last season, completing six of 10 passes for 25 yards. He also added a rushing touchdown. He won the starting job over redshirt freshman Alex Padilla, who did not see any action last season.

Overall, Iowa’s offense is loaded with veteran talent as Padilla is the only freshman to make the two-deep. Running backs Tyler Goodson and Mekhi Sargent, each of whom had over 500 yards on the ground last season, should be the strength of the offense. Iowa also returns its top seven pass catchers from last season, who combined for  216 receptions, 2,681 yards, and 15 touchdowns.

The defense does feature a few redshirt freshman on the two deep, but the starting unit is loaded with experience. That’s especially apparent on the defensive line with starters Chauncey Golston, Daviyon Nixon, Austin Schulte and Zach VanValkenburg.

Iowa will look to extend its streak of six straight season-opening wins when it faces Purdue on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. That game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
