The University of Iowa football program is sending its support to former Hawkeye quarterback C.J. Beathard and his family following a recent tragedy.

Early Saturday morning, Beathard’s brother, Clayton, was one of two individuals fatally stabbed outside a bar in Nashville. He was just 22 years old.

Sunday morning, the University of Iowa football’s official Twitter account sent out a message, showing support for Beathard and his family during such a difficult time.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Beathard family as they cope with their loss,” the tweet said. “All of Hawkeye Nation is behind you.”

On Saturday, the San Francisco 49ers also issued a statement:

Saturday evening, the 49ers played the Los Angeles Rams and Beathard did not attend. After San Francisco’s 34-31 win, head coach Kyle Shanahan shared a powerful message with the team.
