That’s how you make a recruiting pitch.

Iowa hosted Xavier Nwankpa, a highly touted local recruit, for an official visit this past weekend. He was at Kinnick Stadium for the No. 3-ranked Hawkeyes’ thrilling victory over No. 4 Penn State, and the Hawkeye student section made it clear they want him in Iowa City next year, chanting “We want X!” as he walked past.

Nwankpa is the top recruit in the state of Iowa and the No. 3 safety in the country, according to 247Sports. It won’t be easy for Iowa to get his commitment, though. B1G foe Ohio State is also very much in the mix, as is Notre Dame. Nwankpa took official visits to both schools back in June.

He’d be a great get for Kirk Ferentz, who also has a 4-star defensive lineman committed from the Class of 2022. It sure sounds like his official visit went well.

Stay tuned, Hawkeye Nation.
