Iowa unveils 15-player leadership council for 2023 season
Iowa football has unveiled its leadership council for the 2023 season, the team announced in a Monday press release.
In total, the Hawkeyes announced 15 players will serve on the council this fall. Unsurprisingly, program newcomer and quarterback Cade McNamara is included on the leadership council.
Since arriving in Iowa City, McNamara has been praised for his work with the offense and his leadership in the program. He was previously voted as a team captain for Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan program during his time with the Wolverines.
A number of program veterans were also named to the council, including DB Cooper DeJean, punter Tory Taylor, TE Luke Lachey and WR Nico Ragaini. Here is the full list of players on the leadership council:

Noah Shannon is also included on the leadership council though he is currently suspended for the 2023 season due to the recent gambling investigation. Iowa is appealing that decision. Head coach Kirk Ferentz has continually spoken positively about Shannon throughout the process, so the inclusion is not particularly surprising.
The Hawkeyes enter the 2023 season with a Week 1 matchup against Utah State. Kickoff for that game is set for 12 pm ET on FS1.
