Iowa is earning its way closer to the top four.

The Hawkeyes came in at No. 5 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. After a week in which three top-10 unbeatens suffered their first losses of the year, Iowa solidified its place in the top 5.

Iowa improved to 9-0 with a 35-27 win against Indiana and tied its best start in school history. With Michigan State’s loss to Nebraska, the Hawkeyes became one of just two B1G unbeatens and hurdled the Spartans for the conference’s second spot in the top 25.

The B1G was well-represented in the latest poll with six teams, which was more than any other conference.

Ohio State came in at No. 3 while MSU fell to No. 13 and Michigan moved up to No. 14. Important for the Hawkeyes was the fact that two teams they already beat — Northwestern and Wisconsin — earned spots in the top 25.

The Hawkeyes will have a chance to improve their ranking if they can take care of Minnesota on Saturday.
