Connor McCaffery is not quite ready to leave Iowa City.

One of the sons of Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery, Connor has spent 5 seasons with the Hawkeyes since joining the program for the 2017-18 season. Afforded the opportunity to return for final season, McCaffery announced Thursday that he will suit up for the Hawkeyes for the 2022-23 season.

McCaffery appeared in 34 games with 5 starts during the 2021-22 season for the B1G Tournament champion Hawkeyes. He averaged 2.5 points and 17 minutes played while shooting 34% from 3-point range. McCaffery did not score in 23 minutes played during the upset loss to Richmond in the NCAA Tournament.

The southpaw enters his final season tied for 8th in program history in games played with 134. McCaffery is also 8th in Hawkeye history with 410 career assists. Jordan Bohannon holds the program record in both categories.

Bohannon’s program record of 179 games played should be safe, but McCaffery needs just 6 appearances to tie Aaron White for second on Iowa’s all-time list. When it’s all said and done, McCaffery should find himself behind Bohannon in sole possession of second place.
