Iowa’s defense was the star of the Music City Bowl, as the Hawkeyes dismantled Kentucky 21-0 on Saturday.

Although Kentucky out-gained Iowa on offense, the Hawkeyes absolutely dominated on defense. The Iowa defense scored two TDs and shut out the Wildcats in a strong show of force.

Kentucky had 14 possessions in the game, and 10 resulted in a punt from the Wildcats. The remaining three possessions ended with two interceptions returned for touchdowns, and a turnover on downs. The stout Iowa defense only allowed Kentucky 185 total yards and two conversions on 18 third-down opportunities.

Not only did the Iowa defense have perhaps their best performance of the season, but the Hawkeyes also set a few records in the process. The Hawkeyes set the record for most punts forced in the 25-year history of the Music City Bowl. With 10 punts, Iowa also set the record for the most punts forced by a team in a bowl since Oregon in the 2018 Redbox Bowl.
