Iowa’s Keegan Murray has been named the winner of a prestigious national award.

Saturday, Murray was named the recipient of the 2022 Karl Malone Award, presented to the top power forward in college basketball. Murray helped lead Iowa to a fifth-place finish in the B1G and a spectacular run to the B1G Tournament championship this year.

Murray made a significant jump in production from last season to this year, going from a 7.2 points per game average in 2020-21 to averaging 23.5 points per contest this year.

That jump is the largest for any B1G player in nearly 50 years.

In addition to his high scoring average, Murray also collected 8.6 rebounds per game. He scored in double digits in 34 of 35 games and recorded 10 double-doubles. He also set a new single-season B1G Tournament record with 103 total points in 4 games.

Murray also exceeded the 30-point scoring mark 5 times during the season.

Murray was a first-team All-B1G and All-American selection after his outstanding season with the Hawkeyes.
