Tristan Wirfs isn’t wearing an Iowa uniform any longer, but he’s still drawing motivation and inspiration from the program.

Meeting with reporters this week, Wirfs was asked what his goals were for the 2021 season, his second year in Tampa Bay. Though he’s only a rookie, the starting offensive tackle for the Buccaneers has already won a Super Bowl title, scratching the biggest goal off the list already.

So, what is Wirfs’ biggest goal entering this season? He wants to be able to hang a Pro Bowl jersey at Iowa’s football facility. That’s a goal that dates back to his time playing with the Hawkeyes.

“I was back at the Iowa weight room training this offseason and I see all these guys’ Pro Bowl jerseys up on the wall every day, and I’ve always wanted to be up on the wall in that building, have my name there,” Wirfs said. “I thought it’d be pretty cool to get a Pro Bowl jersey and be able to hang it up there. So, make the Pro Bowl would be one of my goals this year.”

Wirfs was the No. 13 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and didn’t take long to carve out a role as a starter in Tampa Bay. He started in every game for the Buccaneers in the regular season and playoffs, helping lead the franchise to a Super Bowl victory. Wirfs was named to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team.

Not only did Wirfs have an outstanding rookie year in Tampa Bay, he was coming off a great year with Iowa in 2019. In his final season with the Hawkeyes, he was a Firs-Team All-B1G and First-Team All-American selection and was named the B1G’s Offensive Lineman of the Year.
