Jack Campbell signed his rookie contract with the Detroit Lions Tuesday afternoon. The former Iowa linebacker was selected 18th overall in the first round of the recent 2023 NFL Draft.

As with most rookies, Campbell signed a 4-year deal with a 5th-year option. He was Detroit’s 2nd first round pick, as the Lions selected former Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs 12th overall.

Campbell’s accolade list is pretty impressive. He was awarded the Butkus Award for the nation’s top linebacker, as well as the Academic Heisman award. He was a team captain at Iowa, a unanimous All-American and a First-Team All-B1G member in 2021 and 2022.

His skillset is something the Lions defense desperately needs. Detroit is slowly turning into a true playoff contender in the NFC, and could make their first legitimate run at the postseason in the 2023 season.

Let’s see if Campbell can take over and become the guy in Detroit for years to come.
