Joel Klatt, like most college football fans, was watching the transfer portal with intrigue to start the offseason.

With the latest transfer window wrapping up, Klatt has dropped his list of the top 5 most interesting transfers so far. Included on that list at No. 4 is former Michigan quarterback turned Iowa Hawkeye, Cade McNamara.’

Klatt explained the move is an easy one to understand as interesting because of an accomplished QB choosing the Hawkeyes. He also believes competent QB play immediately launches Iowa into the B1G title conversation.

“This one’s also pretty self-explanatory, but if you’re having trouble figuring out why is Cade McNamara interesting as a transfer? Because he’s going to Iowa, and Iowa, if they get just average quarterback play, at some point they’re immediately a top-15 team in college football. Immediately,” explained Klatt.

“This is a conference that’s going to be sticking with divisions for another year, which means that Iowa lands themselves in the much easier side of the bracket. They Could easily find themselves competing for a B1G Championship against the winner of the East, and it starts with: Do you get some quality QB play?… If he can play well at all, Iowa’s going to be a really good team.”

McNamara led Michigan to a 12-2 record as a starter with a B1G title and College Football Playoff appearance in 2021. Now, he’ll try to help revamp an Iowa offense that was a big disappointment in 2022.
