Kaden Wetjen reminded everyone why he was recognized as an All-American and named the Big Ten Return Specialist of the Year for 2024. In Monday’s Music Bowl, Wetjen scored Iowa’s second touchdown of the day.

Mizzou tied things up 7-7 in the 1st quarter. Wetjen made sure the tie was quickly broken, taking the ensuing kickoff to the house for 6 points. With the extra point, Iowa was back on top 14-7 with 2 minutes to go in the opening quarter.

Wetjen entered the bowl game having appeared in all 12 games of Iowa’s 2024 regular season. He had 23 kick return for 298 yards, an average of 25 yards per return and 48 yards per game. He also posted 25 punt returns for 312 yards and 1 touchdown, averaging 12.5 yards per return.

Wetjen is a walk-on still not on scholarship with the Hawkeyes. After beginning his career in the JUCO ranks at Iowa Western in 2020, he has the potential to return in 2025 with his 2022 Iowa season counting as a redshirt season.

“My plan is to come back, but we’ll see,” Wetjen said ahead of the game, per Hawk Central. Wetjen indicated he’s “98%” on coming back, leaving a 2% possibility of declaring for the NFL Draft based on his feedback.

The Music City Bowl is 14-14 in the 2nd quarter, airing on ESPN.
