Kadyn Proctor had a wild start to his 2024.

After Nick Saban announced his retirement, Proctor decided to enter the transfer portal. He transferred to Iowa, the home-state school where he originally committed, before flipping to Alabama.

When the spring window opened, however, Proctor decided to hop back into the transfer portal. It was back to Tuscaloosa to be a member of the Crimson Tide.

Proctor opened up about his 2 transfers in The Tides that Bind, a new Alabama football documentary series from Fox Nation.

“Coach Saban left,” Proctor said. “I just started thinking, who’s going to be our new coach? What am I going to do? I came here to play for Coach Saban, you know what I’m saying? So I went back to Iowa.”

Out of Southeast Polk High School in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Proctor was rated the top offensive tackle, top player in the state and No. 10 overall recruit for the Class of 2023 on the 247Sports Composite.

In his recruitment, Proctor verbally pledged to Iowa on June 30, 2022. Alabama and others, however, did not give up on recruiting Proctor. He made a December visit to UA campus and flipped his commitment to the Crimson Tide, signing with Alabama in the Early Signing Period.

A second time, Proctor decided he would rather play for Alabama than Iowa.

“But then a month and a half into being there, it just didn’t feel right,” Proctor said. “I didn’t have no close relationships with none of the guys. I couldn’t relate to none of them. I never heard the words ‘national championship’ come out of their mouths. It just wasn’t the place for me. Three months later, I left.”

Proctor’s words will surely sting for a Hawkeye faithful that has had to twice stomach losing the homegrown 5-star to the perennial SEC power.
