Keegan Murray has been named to the 2022-23 Kia NBA All-Rookie First Team.

The former Iowa Hawkeye was selected to the top team on Monday, receiving 88 first-team votes. Only three voters did not have Murray on their ballot for either the First or Second Team.

Murray is joined by the NBA’s Rookie of the Year, Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magic, as well as Bennedict Mathurin (Indiana Pacers), Jalen Williams (Oklahoma City Thunder), and Walker Kessler (Utah Jazz) on the First Team.

He’s the first former Iowa player to ever make the All-Rookie team.

The No. 4 overall pick in last June’s NBA Draft, Murray was fabulous as a first-year King. He averaged 12.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists a game while starting 78 times for a Sacramento team that shocked the NBA to claim the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoff picture.

Murray started every leg of the team’s 7-game first-round matchup with the Golden State Warriors, scoring in double figures in each of the last 4 outings. He had 23 points and 7 rebounds in Game 4. He then produced a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double in Game 6 to help the Kings win on the road and force a Game 7.

It was the Kings’ first Playoff appearance since 2005, and Murray played a crucial role.

Some thought he had a shot at winning the NBA’s Rookie of the Year honor, but that went to Banchero in Orlando. Still, the future is exceptionally bright for Murray.

The former Hawkeye set a rookie record for 3-pointers made in a season with 206.
