Kirk Ferentz admits Iowa screwing up CFP scenario ‘might be kind of funny’

Kirk Ferentz is not dodging that Iowa has “a hell of a challenge” against Michigan in Indianapolis. However, he also acknowledged the Hawkeyes have a shot at screwing up the College Football Playoff outlook if Iowa can claim the B1G title.
At his Tuesday press conference, Ferentz pointed to a “commonality” of Iowa’s opponents in the B1G Championship Game advancing to the Playoff. This year, a win over No. 2 Michigan would muddle the picture, something Ferentz would get a kick out of.
“That’s kind of a commonality, too. When you get in this game you’re going to be playing someone who if they’re victorious (the Playoff) is where they’re going,” said Ferentz. “If we would win, I mean that would really screw things up I’m guessing. Might be kind of funny actually.”
As for the challenges, Ferentz said Iowa has to try and keep the game low-scoring into the fourth quarter. That would help level the playing field for the Hawkeyes.
“Yeah it will be challenging keeping them low (scoring). Part of it is that out of necessity. Because we don’t get way ahead too often. That doesn’t happen much. It’s just kind of the way it’s been for 25+ years,” said Ferentz. “So, that’s the beauty of football, but the challenge will be to get it into the fourth quarter where it is competitive. At least we’ve had experience at that, that might be one of Michigan’s downsides is they haven’t had a lot of that. Though obviously the last 3 weeks they’ve been in a lot of good games, too.”
