Kirk Ferentz ahead of game vs. Northwestern: ‘Northwestern feels like a trophy game’

Iowa football has a number of rivalry games just within the Big Ten.
The Hawkeyes have trophies going to the winner with each of its rivalry games as well. For example, Iowa-Wisconsin plays for the Heartland Trophy. Iowa-Nebraska and Iowa-Minnesota play for the Heroes Trophy and the Floyd of Rosedale, respectively, as well.
What isn’t technically a rivalry for Iowa, however, is its game with Northwestern. The Hawkeyes-Wildcats matchup has been an intriguing one over the last few years.
Both teams have been good, but not elite. Each season it seems like one of the two teams ends up in the top 25, if not both.
On Tuesday’s Big Ten teleconference, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz talked about Northwestern:

Ferentz’s simple message: Hats off to Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald.
Iowa enters Saturday’s game against Northwestern at 6-3, while the Wildcats are 5-4. Northwestern is in first place in the Big Ten West standings, however, at 5-1.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Kinnick Stadium and the game will be televised on FOX.
