Kirk Ferentz congratulates Iowa's men's, women's basketball for historic season
It’s been an incredible month for Iowa basketball on both the men’s and women’s side. Both teams won the B1G Tournament, making a little conference history.
This season marked just the fourth time ever the same school produced a B1G Tournament winner in both men’s and women’s basketball. Iowa’s success was the first time the feat had been accomplished since 2011, when Ohio State did it.
After the impressive run from both squads, Hawkeyes head football coach Kirk Ferentz released a statement congratulating both squads — as well as the track and field team.
“I want to congratulate the coaches and players from the men’s and women’s basketball teams on their historic tournament championships,” Ferentz said. “When you add in men’s track and field winning a B1G title — March has been special.”

The recent success from Iowa hoops and track and field comes in addition to the impressive run the football team had during the fall, finishing with a 10-4 record and winning a B1G West title.
The 2021-22 athletic year has been incredible in Iowa City. We’ll see if the magic continues in March.
