Kirk Ferentz details confusing nature of controversial review during loss to Michigan

Kirk Ferentz and Iowa squared off against Michigan Saturday night with the B1G title on the line. Ultimately, the Hawkeyes came up short and were shut out in a 26-0 defeat, but one play in particular left the head coach confused.

In the third quarter, quarterback Deacon Hill tried to get rid of a pass while being hit by defenders. That play was initially ruled an incomplete pass, but a replay review ensued.

When it was all said and done, officials awarded the ball to Michigan in a surprising overturn of the call on the field. The ruling sent Brian Ferentz into a ballistic reaction with the offensive coordinator receiving a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct.

After the game, Kirk Ferentz admitted there was confusion to the explanation. The head coach claimed officials said Hill’s arm was moving forward but the QB’s hand was not.

He also said he’s “struggling” with replay overall but admitted that one play did not decide the outcome of the game:
